Smash Cake Session

Piper turned one last month, ONE. How did that happen? I had dreams of a great messy smash cake session, but she reminded me WHY I love photographing children. It never goes the way you plan, but it usually so much better.

In this case, well, let’s just say that our little lady did not like sticky fingers. At all.

It’s okay. More cake for mama.

The Strauss-Hudson Wedding

Stephanie Dulli Photography

I love weddings. I especially love when families are truly blending, this wedding was basically awesome. A small ceremony (which was rad for me, as I am not primarily a wedding photographer) but filled with love, and a lovely meshing of new and old traditions.

Plus the Rabbi gave a cool shout out to marriage equality and that’s when I teared up. Go ahead, tease. It’s cool.

Almost as awesome? Puppies in bow ties and shirt cuffs. Obviously.

After the ceremony the Bride’s mother insisted I partake of the mini cheeseburgers and handmade potato chips. Still thinking about them. Delicious!
Thank you Heather and Paul for allowing me the honor of capturing your wedding. It was a joy! Congratulations!

The last T-ball game…

Child Photography, Stephanie Dulli Photography, Tball

My son has been crazy about baseball since way before he was old enough to play T-ball. This Saturday marked the end of his time as a T-ball player as he moves up to Machine Pitch in the fall, it was also Huckleberry (my four year old’s) first time on the team, he split his time between batting and playing in the sandbox. But he did pose for some pictures.

Coach Zach (their dad) and I want to thank the T-ball Nats for a great season!~

Family Session, The O family.

Child Photography, DC, family photos

I first met Jennifer when she auditioned for Listen To Your Mother D.C. a show that I direct every year. She walked in and told a story that made my producer Kate and I laugh and cry. We quickly cast her and she killed it at the show. Jennifer is the editor and founder of Mom Babble, I ended up contributing several pieces to her site, she and I just clicked. We have similar parenting philosophies and both can crack a joke at lightning speed. I dig her. Sadly she is moving away. Harumph. When Jennifer asked me to take her family photos I jumped at the chance.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day at the National Cathedral. This is one of my happy places.

Thanks O family for a fun day and don’t worry, I’ll be stalking your guest room down south. Just think of the pictures!

#Babygate The A family welcomes Baby Braelyn

Newborn Photography

I’m not going to lie, Van and Megan are friends of ours and I adore them! I don’t expect my friends to always choose me as their photographer, photography is both a technical skill and a creative art. While I may be technically right for you, perhaps I am not your creative cup of tea, you know? That being said I LOVE shooting friends and family, and I was thrilled to photograph Braelyn aka Bean Bag when she was barely a week old.

Isn’t she perfect? And since Megan is a friend of mine I was able to kiss all over that precious little noggin, and yes, she smelled like heaven!

Welcome to the world, Bean Bag. We love you.

The N Family welcomes Baby Jacob

I first photographed the N family for the holidays, and despite the cold we had a blast! Baby Jacob was snuggled in the belly safe and warm though.

If you’re wondering how mama looked at 8 days postpartum when I met baby Jacob? The answer is like she didn’t just have a baby, much less deliver one without any intervention!

And I REALLY mean without any intervention.

You may have seen on the news a story of how mama went into labor and dad racing down the 270 missed the exit to Shady Grove, so baby was born in the front seat of the car? Yeah, Baby Jacob made his debut right into his dad’s arms…arms first. A breech delivery by dad in a car. Let’s hope this one isn’t in such a hurry the rest of his life! 11082216_794235143999664_7097541859213201796_o

Dad made the mistake of pushing up his shirt while helping me set up, once I knew he had a sleeve it was all over. We immediately instructed him to right upstairs and put on a black shirt. Babies+tattoos= instant radness. Not to mention these photos are especially sweet as these are the hands that caught him as he entered the world. If there is one thing I know about this father, he will ALWAYS be there to catch his children should they fall.

So tiny and precious. I have the best job ever. Thank you N family for trusting me with your photos!

My own baby, Piper is now eleven months. Perhaps it is that she is my last baby but I feel as if time is flying by! I’ve celebrated each month of her life with a shoot, none other than Easter, really styled. Just grabbed my camera and got snapping. It’s fun to see her change before my eyes. IMG_5610WM

She is crawling and babbling and dancing up a storm. If there is anything cuter than a dancing baby I am not quite sure what that might be.

She is full of curiosity and makes the best facial expressions.

Piper Collage WM

She is just like Mary Poppins. Practically Perfect in every way. Not that I am biased or anything.

She is also way bummed out that Jen and Ben might be divorcing. Obviously.

The K family welcomes baby Ryn

baby photography, Child Photography, Newborn Photography, Stephanie Dulli Photography

The greatest compliment a photographer can receive is being hired repeatedly, so I was honored when the K family whom I had shot for the Holiday season announced they were having a new baby girl and asked me to capture those newborn moments.

The cheeks on this baby were absolutely edible.

Ryn joins big brother Ridge and big sister extraordinaire Riley. If I know one thing, it’s that Baby Ryn is in good hands. The only thing greater to me than seeing a new baby is seeing a new baby be lavished with love by bigger siblings. Personally I’ve had one baby who couldn’t wait to be a big brother and one who, really was put out and came to love his new baby. Whatever the journey siblings take it’s such a special one and I love when big siblings want to get in on the fun.

Sure, I was there to shoot baby Ryn, but am I really going to turn away this?

Grandma had made Ryn a darling blankie and asked if I might take her photo on it. This is now my new favorite thing, incorporating gifts or family heirlooms to newborn photos.

Baby Ryn was not only welcomed by mom, dad, Ridge and Riley but both sets of grandparents were there to help love, feed, change and oh yes, snuggle her.

This little angel is going to be just fine. And I can only hope I get to be there to see her celebrate her first with a big old cake smash session!

Ben and Lindsey- ENGAGED!

Couples photography, engagement session

Please meet my cousin, Ben and his darling fiance Lindsey. Something funny happened on this shoot, Ben who I rarely see outside of large family gatherings such a Thanksgiving where he is rather quiet and calm, well…Ben? Is funny. Really funny, and good sport even taking our teasing of “It’s not even a little bit about you Ben.” really well. Because we know it’s about the bride right? Okay, maybe it’s about the groom too, but it’s fun to tease a cousin, right?

Anyway, Ben and Lindsey are adorable, and you can see how much they love one another. I felt blessed to be allowed to shoot them.

I fell madly in love with Lindsey myself when she switched sides with Ben saying “I feel like this is a better side for my bangs.” As a fellow fringe wearer…I understood and approved of that choice.

Welcome to the family, Lindsey, we love you already!

My own children…like herding cats.

Child Photography, family photos, holiday photos, toddler

You know how they say the Preacher’s children are always the wildest? Well, sometimes that applies to the photographer’s children as well. Most of the time my kids are really good at being in front of the camera, I take their picture almost every single day, they are the guinea pigs for every new light, lens or photography realated toy I get!

But when mama wants pictures, say ones for Christmas Cards? The boys get crazy! And it’s a blast. Like many shoots sometimes the out takes end up being my favorites.

What is this thing on my head?

Take my picture like this, Mommy!

Sometimes the crazy ones are so precious, they end up being the one.

Possible picture ornament_.jpg

I adore these because while they aren’t the “perfectly staged everyone is looking at the camera” pictures, they capture my children’s personalities perfectly. That’s my ultimate goal as a photographer. The best comments I’ve ever received are “Oh, that is so my sweet little boy!” “You captured her firey spirit perfectly!”

And this? Is my sweethearts.

And lastly, the ellusive REAL smile on a 5 year old. It’s like the Holy Grail sometimes, isn’t it? Especially when Mommy is behind the camera. They know all my tricks which work on other children. Luckily for me, my husband is a physical comedian of John Ritter skill. When in doubt? Pratfalls. directly behind the camera.

Like many moms, I don’t love to be in the picture, which coming from a former actress might seem a silly thing to say. But all I see is the flaws. I decided to hand the camera off to my husband and he grabbed this of the boys kissing me.

I am trying not to focus on the flaws, inclusing the mid-kiss expression which makes me look a bit like the joker and focus on the fact that, my God, we love each other.

Oh, these pictures make my heart smile. I better get editing! I’ve got a Christmas card to make!
